The Royal Award for Sustainable Technology Transfer 2008
Royal Awards for Sustainability in collaboration with CopenMind and with Grontmij | Carl Bro as sponsor of the award organized the Royal Award for Sustainable Technology Transfer 2008 for universities that have successfully transferred a technology to the commercial sector while realising outstanding benefits to society and environment. The award criteria have been built up based on the following principles: a) measurability, b) timescale, c) value creation, d) transparency and e) credibility. The jury judged the entries for the Award according to the success of the technology transfer in the light of the three milestones of sustainability: social, economic and environmental development. The technology transfer projects must have been relevant for at least one of the following six themes: climate change & air pollution, energy, water, waste & recycling, agriculture & land, partnership building. The final jury report, was produced and announced during the Award Ceremony on 2nd September 2008, on the prestigious gala dinner of CopenMind Conference in
Copenhagen.
The 2008 Royal Award for Sustainable Technology Transfer, protected by HRH Crown Prince Felipe of Spain and HRH Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark, was handed over to Colorado State University's Engines and Energy Conversion Laboratory for clean tech innovations in three different areas: an international clean cookstove project, two-stroke engine conversion kit and the next generation of biofuels production from algae.

The two other nominees were the University of Cyprus, showing a novel, selective catalytic reduction process for NOx using hydrogen and the University of New South Wales, Australia, presenting a polymer-injection technology for recycling plastic waste.
